It's year FIVE for the wildly popular Deerfield School Play! I just attended my first PTA meeting yesterday, officially kicking off the play season. I've decided we have to document this crazy experience this year, otherwise who would believe what a husband and wife directing team, a handful of expert theater parents, a swarm of gung ho parent volunteers, and 100+ 4th - 6th graders can do! This year's play is "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer." Past seasons have included Peter Pan, Aladdin and the Magic Lamp, The Wizard of OZ, and Robin Hood. I spent all last May adapting this year's classic for our particular needs (small elementary school stage and 100+ actors!) and ended up with a 39 page script. Of course it's a "kinder, gentler, kid friendly" Tom Sawyer without all the drinking, smoking, swearing, murder, voodoo, and unflattering stereotypes -- should be fun! Posters go up in the school hall next Wednesday and tryout forms go home in student folders on Monday, November 17th. Tryouts will be December 2, 3, and 4 evenings starting at 6:00 and lasting well into the night. Let the fun begin!

What an awesome idea to "blog it!" You think of everything! Do you want me to ask the student council to help put up the posters?
I just have to echo the excitement for the upcoming production of Tom Sawyer. This year’s play should prove to be most excellent and delightful. Rebecca has really out done herself on the script- as usual. It will be a blast directing the kids in this show!
Also, I want everyone who has been involved in past productions to know that without you we would have never gotten this far! It has been a pleasure working with all of you and I look forward to working with everyone again this year.
Let the good times roll!

Bring it on!! The months of secrecy will finally be over! I've been listening to music all summer and have a few things lined up. Maybe I'll post a few of the clips in comments to this blog so all the faithful followers can get in the spirit. No trumpet fanfares for this one, though.
I've just been told by the Browns that Deerfield has built some type of storage closet backstage (left) that blocks our access to that side of the stage. Has anyone seen this? I guess I need to go over to the school and take a look. As you know we always have tons of scenery stacked up and millions of kids lined up on that side of backstage. Hmmm...
